Digital X-rays by Gables Exceptional Dentistry

X-rays are a form of energy that travels in waves and allows doctors to view images showing the structure through which it passed. These images produce the familiar black and white pictures that enable us to diagnose problems and disease not visible by the naked eye. Gables Exceptional Dentistry uses digital radiograph technology which allows us to take X-rays using up to 80% less radiation than conventional film X-rays. This technology allows us to record and view images of your teeth and bones on a computer and gives us the ability to diagnose caries, bone loss, and pathology at an earlier stage than with traditional radiation.

How are X-rays Used?

Our dentists use X-rays to understand the structures of your mouth in the following ways:

• To show areas of decay
• To find cracks or other damage in an existing filling or tooth surface
• To show signs of bone loss due to periodontal (gum) disease or systemic disease
• To help prepare and place tooth implants, orthodontic treatments, dentures and other dental work
• For children, they are used to monitor tooth growth and development in addition to all the above
• To diagnose cysts, granulomas, sinus infections, or any other pathological lesion that may be developing

How Often Should My Teeth Be X-rayed?

The frequency of your X-rays depends greatly on your dental history and should be discussed with your dentist. Some people require X-rays on a regular basis so that their dental conditions can be monitored whereas others may not need them for as long as two years. If you are new to our practice and have no existing X-ray records, we will recommend a dental series so that your oral health can be properly diagnosed and/or treated.
