Root Canal Procedure by Gables Exceptional Dentistry
Root canal therapy (aka endodontic therapy) is a treatment performed on severely damaged or infected teeth in order to avoid pain, spread of infection, and/or tooth loss.
Inside every tooth is a substance called "pulp", which contains the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. Trauma, fractures, and deep cavities can affect the health of the pulp and cause a chain of reactions which if not treated on time can lead to tooth loss and a weakened immune system.
An infected pulp can be very painful and dangerous to your overall health. Symptoms that the pulp has become infected may include: sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Sometimes there are no apparent symptoms and a person does not know of a problem until a checkup radiograph is taken and the lesion is visible in the x rays.
During a root canal procedure your dentist will need to disinfect the area and remove all associated debris, including nerve tissue, lymph tissue, blood tissue, bacteria and infection. Once the affected tooth's canals are cleaned and are clear of harmful debris, your dentist will fill them with materials designed to prevent pain and infection from recurring.
Thanks to the advances in dentistry and the computers and lasers used by Drs Amador and Perez, root canal treatments no longer have to be associated with swelling, pain or discomfort.
